Jon Hyde 2

It is with profound sadness that we inform the Fellowship that Jon Hyde - our Chair of Trustees, Word for the Week editor, and LCF member for almost 20 years - has died aged 42.

Jon passed away peacefully on Monday morning at the Royal Trinity Hospice near to his home in London. He died from bowel cancer diagnosed in December 2021.

We mourn deeply the passing of a dear friend to so many in our Fellowship, and we convey our heartfelt sympathies to Rosie his wife, and to their two young sons Zachy and Sammy.

Throughout his illness Jon and Rosie have demonstrated in a thousand tangible ways what it means to let the manner of their life be worthy of the gospel, as they have centred their hopes and love in the Lord Jesus Christ, and leaned upon other Christians who have and continue to hold them especially close in their hearts.

The Thanksgiving Service will be held at St Michael's Church Southfields at 11am on Thursday 8 Dec, and will also be live streamed on YouTube. Jon preached at St Michael's as recently as the 16 Oct. Whether speaking in his local church, or at an LCF event, Jon always spoke warmly of his Lord and Saviour, helping believers to connect their faith in Jesus with their everyday lives.

In his final sermon, Jon said, "Trying to work in the law and to live the rest of my life as a disciple of Jesus affects everything I do on the most fundamental of levels, from my relationships to how I spend my time, from what I do with my money to my aspirations, and everything in between. And…it's amazing! And I wouldn't change it for anything. Even when the going gets tough, my God is with me."

Jon studied Theology and Philosophy at Oxford University. Thoughtfulness and wisdom, compassion and grace were characteristic of his work and his friendship. He gave freely and sacrificially of his time to the LCF. We are indebted to him.
Jon's life was no ordinary life, and his death was no ordinary death. We mourn, but we do so with certain hope in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jon will be greatly missed by the staff, trustees and wider fellowship.

The LCF will be keeping a book of remembrance for Jon to give to Rosie. Please do send any messages that you would like to be included in the book to mark.bainbridge@lawcf.org.

Jon's last sermon which was preached on the 15th of October can be viewed here.

He also wrote a blog for the theology of law website on what success means for a lawyer
