Essential Truths: Easter & the Eyewitnesses: did the Resurrection really happen?
The pivotal event in the Christian faith is the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth from the dead. It is a staggering claim, so how can we have confidence that it is history and not myth? And how do we convey that confidence to others?
Lawyers are trained to assemble and analyse evidence. So, what of the possible sites for Jesus' tomb? What do sources outside the Bible say? Are the logical alternatives to the resurrection likely?
And what are the implications of the verdict? If the resurrection did not happen, 'then our preaching is in vain … your faith is futile and you are still in your sins (1 Cor 15:14–17). But if it did happen, then all who look to Jesus for their salvation have been 'born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead' (1 Peter 1:4).
In this interactive seminar, His Honour Judge Graeme Smith, a Circuit Judge based at Bolton Crown Court, will weigh up the evidence for us and equip Christian lawyers with the confidence to present a rational argument for Jesus' resurrection.
The event is free, but it would be very helpful if you could confirm attendance to give us an idea of numbers for catering purposes.
