"...for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."Matthew 12 :37 (ESV)
This verse forms part of a conversation our Lord was having with a group of lawyers. To further reflect on this I would commend you to read the whole conversation.
As a lawyer I am often instructed to tread a very careful path through a situation using words. That is not always an easy path. If I am not treading the path myself then I am frequently being asked to read or listen to the words of other lawyers who are treading a similar path for their own clients. It is what lawyers do! Then, sometimes, when I read back over a file I realise that my words have been careless.
I wonder if like me you were brought up short by these words of Jesus! What a wonderful work we are engaged in but what a responsibility as well.
"Word for the week" indeed!
1. Pray for fellow members of the LCF as they witness in word and deed to their faith in Christ this week.
2. Give thanks and praise to God for the wonderful truth that "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
