Week beginning: 20th October, 2013

By Mark Mullins | London

And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

1 Kings 17:22-24 (KJV)

Can you imagine the joy that the widow of Zarepheth must have experienced when her son, so suddenly taken from her by illness, should be restored to her alive? She acknowledged by this miracle that Elijah was a man of God, that he spoke the Lord's Word and that Word is true.

The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is the great authentication that He is who He claimed to be: The Son of God who is The way, the Truth and the Life; the only way to the Father (John 14:6). It also shows that He spoke God's Word and that His Word is true.

The power exhibited in the resurrection is the same power that works in every believer to bring spiritual life (Ephesians 1:19-20). What an encouragement as we enter another week, that we have this great message of Christ's resurrection to proclaim and have the same power, the Holy Spirit, which raised Christ from the dead at work in us conforming us to His image and empowering us for service.

Prayer points:

1. Give thanks again for the wonderful message of the Gospel we have to proclaim, and pray for confidence to do this in His power.

2. Pray for the work of our partners around the world who are seeking to proclaim the gospel often in difficult circumstances.
