Week beginning: 24th November, 2013

By James Worthington | Amersham

"...not greedy for money but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away."

1 Peter 5:2-5 (NIV)

This chapter is full of good and godly advice about how we should live as Christians with some well-known verses about humility, casting our cares on the Lord, resisting the devil and standing firm in our faith.

All of us have some responsibility for caring for others, whether in our family, work or church situations and we are called to do so willingly, eagerly and to be good examples to others. Let us seek to do this whole-heartedly this week, thereby also pleasing the Chief Shepherd whom we love and who loves us deeply too.

Three different verses in this chapter refer to our eternal reward. Those who suffer for their faith may think of eternity more than we do but it is very much part of our Christian hope too. We have the certain hope of the Chief Shepherd's return and that we will share eternity with Him and with all those who have gone before us and died in the faith. Let us be strong in our faith and witness as He is and will be faithful to us.

Prayer points:

1. As you pray this week ask God to show you who you should be caring for.

2. Pray that you may have the opportunity to share your faith and witness to the eternal hope you have in Christ.
