Week beginning: 11th May, 2014

"Lord remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered - how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath. We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you."Psalm 39: 4-7 (NLT)
Too rushed to let go...
At the end of a busy 13 hour day in the office - with lots of work still on the desk, undone - I find David's reflection on the brevity of life both timely and freeing. Routinely I perceive a significant shortage of hours in my life, and that leads to complaints and panic - so much to do and so little time!
But as I read these words again, I am reminded that the Lord Almighty has already measured the number of my days: the Alpha and the Omega, my God and King, who makes no mistakes, has allotted to me this 'fleeting life', just as He did for David - and it is enough. I have to live with eternity in mind so much more, rather than being occupied with "busy rushing" which "ends in nothing."
So this week, with clients, colleagues and deadlines pressing upon many of us; exams looming; and family issues pressing, let's ask God what we need to make a bigger deal about, and what less of a deal? What things do we simply need to let go of? Who should we be spending more time with or, quite honestly, less time with? Let us put our hope and trust in the one who has numbered our days.
1) Take time now to offer this week afresh to the Lord, asking Him to guide you as you live in His presence and grace.
2) Pray for all our student members as they prepare for and gear up to exams.
