Week beginning: 8th June, 2014

"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

Eph 4:32 (KJV)

Growing up in a family of seven children, this verse was a favourite of my parents! It was often quoted to us and taught in family quiet times as a necessity as well as an important teaching. I learnt to say it as a small child. It has an easy rhythm to it, especially in the King James Version.

But familiarity and simplicity do not mean it is easily put into practice. For many lawyers, our skills of thinking and speaking quickly on our feet are essential and a matter of pride. Sometimes those abilities are also our greatest weakness. We may speak the truth or be in the right but are we kind? Is our heart tender towards our colleagues or opponents? James says the tongue is "a fire, a world of iniquity…no man can tame [it]" (James 3:6 and 8 NKJV).

The challenge is to tame the tongue and to be kind and forgiving, with God's help. The motivation to accept the challenge is the remembrance of God's forgiveness of us through Christ's atoning death on the cross.

Prayer points:

2) Pray for our staff team as they seek to serve the membership of the LCF, that they may be guided by the Lord with wisdom and understanding.
