I lift up my eyes to the mountains –where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.Psalm 121:1-2, NIV
In the city we are surrounded by the power of human beings. The buildings, the manufactured goods, and the information we see all day impress on us the force of human ambition, creativity and strength. In such an environment, the demands from our boss, the pressure from our clients and the competition from our colleagues can be overwhelming. Our future, our security and our identity seem to be determined by the people around us.
Things look very different when standing at the foot of a mountain. There one sees the grandeur of nature, the strength of rock and the power of water. Each feature in the landscape and sky speaks of God, whose ambition, creativity and strength are limitless, who created not just the mountains but the whole of heaven and earth.
If we will lift up our eyes from our desks to see the mountains we will put the power of people into perspective. As we look up we remember that our future, our security and our identity are as children of God, in Christ, and sealed with the Holy Spirit.
Take time to praise and thank God for the total assurance that your identity, security and future are held in Christ as you trust in Him whatever happens this week.
Pray for opportunities to share with others the hope of the Gospel and the assurance you have in this.
