Week beginning: 28th September, 2014

By Mark Barrell | Bury St Edmunds

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

Psalm 27 v 1 (ESV)

Fear can so easily drive the manner by which we work in and study the law. Fear of failure, of letting people down, and of making a mistake. Fear can become a stronghold leading us to the point of despair, especially when the workload is piling up and there is no "light at the end of the tunnel".

Psalm 27 is full of reasons to be fearful, with various enemies and circumstances that might cause any one of us to give up hope. But despite these the bold assertion of the Psalmist is that rather than fear it is the LORD who is, and will be, the light to guide his path and in whom he will trust for this salvation.

As those who belong to Christ, living under His Lordship, we too are released from fear if we desire one thing (v4)- to seek and gaze upon the beauty and goodness of the LORD and His faithfulness. As we do so our hearts and minds are able to rejoice that everything we do this week, and even our eternal destination can be entrusted to His care and sovereignty.

Prayer Points:

Give thanks to God that in the midst of all that will happen this week His presence is assured and ask Him to guide your paths this week.

Pray for good conversations with law students as we visit various freshers fairs and for new LCF groups to emerge at each of the specialist law institutions.
