Week beginning: 5th October, 2014

"In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety."

Psalm 4:8 (NIV)

There are times when the pressures of daily life in the law can become quite overwhelming. Each day can bring troubles, not only at work but also away from it. Is your response to hide yourself in your work, trusting in your own ability to get on top of everything and hoping you'll be able to do the same when the next stressful situation arrives? All things, including the stresses of our professional practice, rest in God's hands.

The comfort David felt at difficult times in his awareness of God's love and protection came from a true confidence of that love and an awareness that God alone could provide it. We know that Jesus himself tells us not to worry about tomorrow as tomorrow will worry about itself (Matt 6:34). These are words which we do not need merely to understand, but to live out. In doing so, we will find the safety and rest of which the Psalmist speaks.

Prayer Points:

Pray for those who are struggling with the pressures of work, and particularly for those known to us, and that we may best make them aware of God's protection.

Pray for those who are coming to the student evangelistic events being held over the next couple of weeks in Birmingham, Guildford, Manchester, Leeds and London, that all may be open to respond to the Gospel.
