Week beginning: 28th December, 2014

By Michael Hawthorne | Broadstairs, Kent

"…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Matthew 5: 16 (NIV)

You will have been surrounded by lights in recent days! Perhaps you had a candle-lit Carol Service. We only really appreciate light when it is not there. Earlier this year I was at a Church Service in South Africa when all power was cut off. No microphones, no organ, no light! Worshipping in the dark is not easy!

Jesus tells us that we are to be lights in our world. On this day in 1170 Thomas Becket , Archbishop of Canterbury, was murdered in his cathedral by four knights. Today a candle shines on the spot where his tomb once stood.

Will what you are and do today, and through this week, cause those who encounter you to praise God? You may be the only Christian they meet.

For prayer:

Pray that your life will shine for God.
Pray for those whose lives yours touches.
Pray that others may see the light of Christ in you.
