"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."1 John 5:4 (NKJV)
A Christian realises that the world and its values are opposed to a person's eternal destiny because we have been born into another world. We work in a culture that desires only what this world offers and sees it as its friend.
Those very things that those around us make their goal, we, as Christians realise we must shun, but how difficult that can seem at times. However God has given us the tool we need to overcome those temptations that threaten to pull us down. It is our faith – not any faith! As Christians we believe that the Lord Jesus laid down his life to deliver our souls from hell and to give us an inheritance in heaven that is "incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away" (1 Peter 1:4).
When our faith is strong these things seem just over the horizon and worth giving up everything for. When our faith is weak then the world crowds in. Let us, with the disciples ask the Lord Jesus to "increase our faith" (Luke 17:5). Starting the day with prayer and God's Word and having regular fellowship with other Christian is a great way to increase our faith in the reality of God's promises.
Have you taken time to pray yet this morning? If not, stop, thank God for this new day and ask God to increase your faith.
Pray for those people that you may invite to hear the good news this Christmas, whether at an LCF carol service or at your own church.
