"Which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."

Matthew 6:27-29 (ESV)

Are you dressed properly?

What do you worry about? Maintaining the image of doing it all? Winning or losing the case? Impressing your boss, colleagues or client? Or is it the next steps - Training contract? Tenancy? Partnership? Maybe your anxiety is more deep-seated - are you a "worrier"?

This is not what God has planned for us.

If you clothe yourself in worry your core focus is not on God but on your fears, causing you to act from a place of insecurity and defensiveness; diverted from a love for others to self-protection. Staying late at work, missing time with Christian friends or skipping time with God for fear of missing out, not succeeding, or somehow not being able to do it all – without God, it's a lonely place to be.

Clothing ourselves in Christ (Gal. 3:27), we can find peace. The challenges that face us remain, but we are able to respond from a place of confidence and love, reflecting God into our situation; secure in the knowledge that "as we seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness" (Matt. 6:33), God will meet us and give us all that we need.

What and who are you clothed in today?

Prayer points:

1. Give thanks that we do not need to act out of fear or anxiety, but that we can have confidence in God, for He has overcome.
2. Pray that the Holy Spirit would change our hearts, that we may be clothed with God's righteousness and know His peace.
