Week beginning: 11th October, 2015

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Joshua 1:9 (NIV 1984)

God gave Joshua quite some task. The roles we have assigned to us at work will not be as momentous as that of leading Israel across the Jordan into the promised land. But, the way in which we carry them out may have great significance to our clients. This, together with the pressures of lack of time and the need to fulfil other commitments, can cause great stress and at times make life seem very daunting.

Just as God knew of the anxieties and fears that Joshua would experience, He knows of the stresses and anxieties which will meet us all in our professional lives. The words that comforted and encouraged Joshua should have the same effect on us, inspiring us to live by faith and not by sight (2 Cor 5:7). If we allow ourselves to be encouraged to trust in God's strength when the weight of the demands on us is overwhelming, we may find that He enables us to achieve things that we would not have thought possible.

Prayer points:

1. Pray that we and our Christian colleagues will rely on God to deal with the difficulties of practice, and that we may be recognised by others, as Joshua was, as people "in whom is the spirit" (Nu 27:18).

2. Pray for all those that Fiona and Adam have met at student freshers fairs recently that the conversations with Christians and Non-Christians will bear fruit.
