"Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher
than I."

Psalm 61:1-2 (KJV)

There are days – and nights – when we feel completely overwhelmed. Whether it's the pressures of work or study, deadlines looming, circumstances at home, ill health, spiritual warfare or the many other challenges of life.

In these verses, the Psalmist uses the word "cry" twice. It emphasises the heartfelt desperation that he experienced and perhaps how we feel at times. No-one else can help. No-one else understands.

But we are not alone. In fact, we have a Rock that is solid.

He is our foundation (Matt 7:24). He is our rescuer (Ps 40:2). He is our provider (Numbers 20:8). He is our security (Ps 61:2). Most of all, our Rock left heaven to experience life, overcome in all things, die for our sins, rise gloriously to defeat our greatest enemies of sin, death and hell. He is enthroned in glory ready to receive us, if we trust in Him, in an eternal place of bliss.

Let the storm surges of life and waves of care lift you onto the Rock that is Jesus.

Prayer Points:

1. Bring to God today the cry of your heart, and know that he will lift you up because he cares for you.
2. If there are those known to you today, especially in your workplace, who are going through difficult times lift then before the Lord, and ask for opportunities to share Christ with them.
