Week beginning: 13th March, 2016

'...Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."'

John 18:37 (NIV, 1984)

Are you really in control?

In one of the most significant court scenes in history the powerful Roman governor, Pilate, stood in judgment on Jesus deciding whether he was to live or die. The scene is deeply paradoxical: Pilate only had power because it had been conferred on him by God (Romans 13:1), he was playing his part in God's pre-ordained plan and he had no notion that he was judging the ultimate judge of all mankind.

Pilate's own eternal destiny was decided by whether or not he would listen to Jesus, whether he would accept Jesus' testimony about the truth and whether he was prepared to accept him as king – whether during Jesus' trial or subsequently. The prisoner was in fact the judge, the judge was appointed by the prisoner, the judge's response to the prisoner's own questions would ultimately determine his future.

How humbling for lawyers who appear to be in control and what a spur to testify to others of the truth about Jesus.

Prayer Points:

1. Give thanks to the Lord for His wonderful gift of grace, and recommit yourself and all you do into the hands of the King of Kings this morning.
2. Ask the Lord to guide you in all truth this week and for a willingness to share the truth with others.
