"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

Matthew 5:9 (KJV)

The Lord Jesus said that that he came to give us peace that the world cannot give (John 14:27). The purpose of the law of the land is to restore peace between individuals and maintain peace within society. However, the law of the land, being of this world, cannot bring the peace of Christ.

Christ's peace is between man and God because the Lord Jesus came to be the one mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). It is a glorious peace because it is a peace that comes from having a clear conscience with God. A guilty plea to a criminal charge brings peace of a certain kind to the conscience but it does not blot out the offence caused to God which remains until a person repents of his sin and trusts in Christ's atoning work on the Cross.

As children of God we are called to bring to others the peace of God that only the Gospel can offer. As Christian lawyers, this week, let us look for opportunities to bring to people that peace to our neighbour, whether client or colleague. As we confess Christ before men, so Christ has promised to confess us before His Father in heaven (Matthew 10:32) and so we shall indeed be called the children of God.

Prayer Points:

1. Praise God that through Jesus' death on the cross we can experience a peace the world cannot give – peace with God.
2. Ask God to give us the boldness to share this Gospel message of peace with God with our colleagues this week.
