PAY ATTENTION!

Week beginning: 8th October, 2017 | By Michael Hawthorne | Canterbury

"You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar...
...How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!"

Psalm 139:2, 17 (NIV)

As lawyers we are accustomed to court sittings. The usher's call to "All rise!" heralds the arrival of the Judge to start the hearing. Will on-line hearings have the same impact I wonder?

The psalmist marvels at the fact that God knows exactly the moment when we sit down and when we rise up again. Nothing escapes His notice. He hears what we say but He even knows what we are thinking at any moment. God's attention is upon us always.

A question from verse 17 is this, am I paying attention to God? Are our prayers one-sided? All petition and no listening? As we read our Bibles are we asking "What is God saying to me through this passage?

We will be extremely busy today but before we set off let us pay attention to our Lord, seek His wisdom, and allow His light to shine through us to those He wants to reach.

Prayer points:

1.  That we retain awareness of our Lord's presence with us through the working day and afterwards.

2.  That we remain responsive to His prompting and leading in our work and witness.
