The Serpent Crusher

Week beginning: 4th February, 2018 | By Peter Thompson | London

"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

Genesis 3: 15 (NIV)

How amazing is God's salvation plan! Sin has just entered the world through Adam and Eve's disobedience. But God even at this stage has a plan – one of Eve's offspring would eventually give birth to a serpent crusher! A key part of Jesus' mission was to defeat Satan.

We know that the devil may prowl around, tempting us to fall into sin, since we are his enemies. But we know that Jesus has ultimately disarmed him (Col 2:15).

So when we are tempted to fall into sin or feel that the devil is leading us astray, we can remember Jesus has already crushed Satan's head! He has no power over us. When we are tempted to live to please our colleagues or put clients' interests above God's glory, we can look back to Jesus as the serpent crusher and remember that these things have no power over us. Jesus has won the victory!

Prayer Points:

1.  Praise God that Jesus disarmed Satan when he died on the cross for us.

2.  Pray that we remind ourselves of this victory in the battle against sin.
