Are you GDPT ready?

Week beginning: 20th May, 2018 | By Fiona Mahendran | London

"For who is God besides the LORD?
And who is the Rock except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure."

Psalm 18:31-32 (NIV)

King David knew the power of God's equipping and transforming strength. Murderous enemies pursued David yet he stood strong in the end and was delivered because of his confidence in God.

David described his dire circumstances as "cords of death" and "torrents of destruction" which entangled and overwhelmed him (v.4). However, David knew the answer to his problem lay in the strength of his God, so he cried out to Him (v.6). Once God heard David's cries, He "parted the heavens and came down" (v.9). God then reached down and drew David out of his "deep waters" and brought him "into a spacious place" (vv.16, 19).

Why did God do this? Because He delighted in David (v.19).

Can you recall a situation when you felt totally helpless, overwhelmed and could see no way out? Be it balancing law exams alongside summer applications, time-consuming tasks, such as GDPR compliance, or the continued wait for a new member of staff, Psalm 18 screams Jesus to us! Whilst David's righteousness reflected his devotion to God (vv.20–24), post-Christ, we are seen by God through Jesus' righteousness, not our own. What a sacrifice Christ made for us, so that we could know God's power to shield, strengthen, move forward and equip us for whatever lies ahead (vv.30–36).

Are you ready for a God who Delights in you and Powerfully Transforms?

Prayer Points:

1. Thank God for delighting in you! (v.19) Praise Him for His power to transform us from inside out by His Spirit.

2. Pray that in overwhelming and difficult circumstances you will learn to cry out to Him, your firm foundation, your deliverer, your protector (vv2–3; 31).

3. Pray to be armed and equipped by His strength for whatever you face this week (vv.32–34).
