No fear. Only faith.

Week beginning: 3rd March, 2019 | By Esther Harrison | Nottingham

And He said to her, "Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace."

He answered him, saying, "Do not be afraid; only believe…"

Luke 8:48, 50b (NKJV)

These are familiar words to many of us. The account of Jesus being touched by the woman who had the flow of blood for twelve years, healing her and then reassuring Jairus, who was anxious that the Saviour would reach his daughter in time to heal her too.

These are words of great encouragement, spoken by a sovereign God, who had the power to heal and raise the dead. But so often we fail to trust in them for ourselves. As lawyers, we work in a competitive world, where we are constantly under pressure to perform; to find the solution; to obtain the verdict. It can be terrifying, especially when we don't have the answer.

The wonderful lesson in all of this is that Jesus knows our fears. He is able to give us peace and meet our needs. He has met our greatest need, that of salvation through His death and resurrection. We need not fear. Have faith in God and know His peace today.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Tim 1:7 (NKJV)

Prayer Points:

1. Pray that members feeling the pressure of the competitive legal world would know God's peace today, and in the week ahead.
2. Praise God that in Jesus, our greatest need has been met! Pray that we would not fear but trust in our Almighty Father, whose love and mercy have secured our salvation.
