An Unbeatable Invitation
Week beginning: 29th September, 2019 | By Beki Muinde | London
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.John 14:27 (NIV)
In one of the last conversations Jesus has with His disciples before he goes to the cross, the disciples are anxious and full of questions. Understandably, they ask: What's the plan, Lord?
Life is full of uncertainty and things we can't control – including (or especially) for lawyers. Whilst our clients expect clear direction, it is easy for us too to find ourselves asking God: WHAT'S THE PLAN, LORD?
As many of us will have experienced, God does not always share His plan with us. Instead, like the disciples, He invites us to choose obedience and to trust that He knows what He is doing even when we can't see what is next.
As we walk this road of trust, God promises us peace. Not peace "as the world gives" – God's promise is not peace based on external circumstances. It is a richer, deeper and qualitatively different "peace". God invites us into what the Jews call Shalom – a Hebrew word which can be translated as "peace" but really means wholeness/wellbeing/completeness – made possible because the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross has made a way for us to live wholly and at peace with God. Daily, God invites us into this peace. Will you accept the invitation?
1. For those who are anxious or fearful today. Pray that they would know the deep shalom that only God offers.
2. For those who are in a season of waiting and feel restless for God to show what is next. Pray that they would trust God in the journey, knowing that He is faithful and is working all things together.
