What is your engine running on?
Week beginning: 5th August, 2018 | By Laurence Wilkinson | London
To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.Colossians 1:27-29 (ESV)
As lawyers, we will all be familiar with the dreaded feeling of facing up to a heavy workload that seems insurmountable. Not only can it impact on our productivity, but it can also affect our relationships both in and out of the workplace.
When we start to feel as though we are running out of steam, it is incredibly encouraging to reflect on Paul's letter to the Colossians. We must never forget that through our work, we have a unique opportunity to proclaim Christ to our colleagues and our clients, however much strain we might be under. This can be through our words, our actions, and even our attitude.
Paul makes clear that through his exhausting efforts in proclaiming Jesus, his power-source is Christ's energy. What a privilege it is to know that we don't have to rely on our own strength – it's the equivalent of having rocket fuel available to us!
As this week begins, perhaps take a moment to reflect on the things ahead that you know are going to be an uphill struggle. Commit them to Christ, and ask for His energy to sustain you through them.
1. Praise God for his boundless energy that works so powerfully in us.
2. Pray for opportunities to proclaim Christ even through times of difficulty and stress.
