Colossians 2:13-15 (ESV)
"And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him."
A lawyer's greatest problem
What's your greatest problem? Fee targets? Too much work, or too little? A difficult boss or client? All of these can have a big impact on us. But for any lawyer, the greatest problem is their sin. Everything else pales into insignificance in comparison.
But praise God that in Christ Jesus, our sins can be forgiven. On the cross, the record of our sin was cancelled and our forgiveness was secured. Horatio Spafford reflected this so beautifully when he wrote:
"My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!"
This Easter, amid all the pressures we face, let's rejoice in the forgiveness secured for us on the cross, and be sure to tell others of it too. The news is far too good to keep to ourselves!
1. Give thanks to God for His indescribable gift of grace in Christ Jesus.
2. Ask that the Lord will over this Easter time give you the peace and joy of knowing that everything is safe in His hands, whatever the problem or pressure you face.
