"There remains therefore a rest for the people of God."

Hebrews 4:9 (NKJV)

I am sharing this thought from a place in the (admittedly intermittent) sun! Each morning starts with a swim in the local bay's glacial waters! Then I need the sun!

Here on holiday lawyers and labourers, politicians and postmen, teachers and taxi drivers basically seek the same thing. In one word, 'Rest'. The form of that rest will differ from person to person. For some that rest is found in inactivity and for others in a change of activity.

What a privilege God has given us with regard to rest. I don't mean solely putting the lights out and going to bed at night, though that is good too! Jesus gives us His rest that lasts through eternity: 'Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest', are His words recorded in Matthew 11:28. Those who turn from their sins to the One who died as the sinner's substitute on the cross know that rest which will never end.

Then in the trials and problems of every day's work and living, we are aided by His Holy Spirit and through His word to know the rest of God's peace. We can say with Isaiah, 'You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.' (Isaiah 26:3).

And to prepare for each week's work He gives us a whole day of special rest each Lord's day. Those who keep His day from the heart know that wonderful rest of spirit that Isaiah again speaks of, in chapter 58:13-14, and which enables us to delight in Him who uplifts us, feeds us spiritually, and gives us the great assurance of trusting His word.

May you know His rest in your life - even when its going crazy around you!

Prayer points:

1) To enter in to each type of rest the Lord has for me by coming to Jesus in every situation.

2) To bless others by showing them God's rest in a stormy world around and to help others by my words and my life to seek that rest in Christ.
