Week beginning: 9th August, 2015

By Gerard Chrispin | London

"Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Luke 15:10 (NKJV)

What will be really memorable – even unforgettable – in this week beginning 9th August?

A successful trial? A big conveyancing deal? Cash flow now positive? Finished drafting that document – at last?

History can give us many memorable 9th August dates. The atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki in 1945. Colonel Gadhafi was married for the third time in 1987. O J Simpson's double murder trial began in 1994. Usain Bolt became the first person to win the 100m and 200m sprint in back to back Olympics.

But what could be the most significant thing that you and I could be part of during this coming week? Something that would set Heaven's angels alight with joy and 'ring the bells' there because of its everlasting and blessed effects?

In Luke 15 Jesus teaches about the lost sheep being sought, the lost coin being found, and the lost son repenting and coming home. One common theme is the genuine joy that accompanies each event. Jesus says, "Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

If you have not yet trusted Christ as your Saviour your joy, if and when you do, will be shared in Heaven. If God enables you to help one other person to turn to Christ and be saved, the angels will share your joy at being used by God for something that lasts for eternity – the salvation of 'one sinner who repents'. As you go about your important tasks today, remember the one over which Heaven longs to rejoice and for which Christ shed His blood to enable it to happen.

Prayer points:

1. That my demeanour as I work will be a blessing to those with whom I work.
2. That I will see the deepest need of anyone I meet is to know Jesus Christ.
3. That Heaven's angels will rejoice over people I know coming to Christ.
