Week beginning: 27th May, 2018 | By Michael Hawthorne | London
"Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."Matthew 14:27 (NIV 2011)
When the disciples, towards the end of the night in a boat buffeted by waves and wind, saw someone walking towards them on the water, they can be pardoned for their natural fear. Jesus at once reassures them: "Don't be afraid!" Perhaps he might have said, "Don't panic!" Fear was banished, and Peter even had confidence to walk on water himself and go towards Jesus, until he looked away and saw the wind, fear returned, and he began to sink. Jesus caught him and helped him into the boat.
You may not be out in the dark in a boat this week but there could be challenging times ahead as we are faced with problems which may seem to be overwhelming. Before leaving for chambers, office, court or studies each day, claim this word from the Lord Jesus. He has promised to be with us always. We can take courage and face whatever challenges lie ahead, for He is beside us.
1. For a sense of Jesus beside you at all times.
2. For calm when tempted to panic in an emergency.
3. For opportunities to reassure others facing testing.
