The secret to saying "No"
Week beginning: 4th November, 2018 | By Pete Thompson | London
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ…".Titus 2:11-13 (NIV)
In private practice, the culture is to be at the beck and call of those calling the shots. To the client's instruction, the partner says "Yes". The trainee does the same to their supervisor. But when that instruction contradicts God's Word, or when we feel tempted to fall into sin, how will we say "No"?
According to Paul, the answer is found in God's grace, his undeserved kindness to us in sending Jesus. It is as we look back at God sending Jesus to save us and forward to meeting him in the New Creation that we realise all we owe to him and want to live godly lives.
So when we are feeling the pressure to compromise our faith, let's turn back to God's grace.
1. Praise God for his grace shown to us in sending Jesus to save us.
2. Pray for members to be reminded of that grace and so to live distinctive lives.
