Gracious living for Christian lawyers

Week beginning: 15th September, 2019 | By Janys Scott | Scottish Borders

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Romans 6:12-14 (ESV)

It's Monday morning. Another week of legal challenge, with all that can go right and all that can go wrong. And another week of challenge in living the Christian life.

Paul reminds us:

Remember who you are. You have been brought from death to life. You are bought with a price. That means you are a child of God, a member of His household and precious in God's eyes.

Remember what Christ has done for you. It is He who laid down his life for you, to set you free from the dominion of sin. Sin does not control you. There is no need to give way to the passions of anger, frustration, defeat or despair, any more than you are to be controlled by pride, jealousy or avarice. The slavery of sin is over and done with.

Remember who you belong to. You have been called into the kingdom of the living Lord. You live your day, your week, your life, under His grace, in his loving purposes, as an instrument of His righteousness. You are an exponent of His gracious rule.

Enjoy your day.

Prayer Points:

Present yourself to God this morning as a saved sinner, and:

1.  Give thanks to God for the Lord Jesus Christ whose sacrifice has brought you from death to life.
2.  Pray to fulfil His purposes for you this week, as a freed instrument of His righteousness.
