Genesis 5:1-3 (ESV)
"This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. Male and female he created them, and he blessed them and named them Man when they were created. When Adam had lived for 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth."
Pass it on!
Creation in the image of God distinguishes men and women from other creatures and this status is passed on from generation to generation by natural birth.
God's new creation, inaugurated by Jesus' resurrection, includes all those "born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God" (1 Peter 1:23) - children of God, distinguished from the rest of mankind. As we proclaim the Gospel, and others trust in Christ, that status is passed on. But what about passing on our own likeness? Paul wrote to the Corinthians, "I urge you, then, be imitators of me. That is why I sent you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ." (1 Corinthians 4:16-17)
Serving students and junior lawyers is an important role of the LCF. If you are one, why not get to know a more senior member who can help you practise law God's way?
Those of us who are more senior must be ready to help and advise Christians just starting their legal careers. Having made that our priority (Galatians 6:10), if we can do the same for non-Christians in a similar position, we will not only act as salt and light, but also create a context in which the Gospel can quite naturally be communicated.
1) Pray for LCF staff and other members who spend time with students and junior lawyers and for students to join LCF groups in the various postgraduate law schools in the forthcoming academic year.
2) Pray for opportunities to spend time with a more senior Christian lawyer and/or someone at an earlier stage in his or her legal career, for giving and receiving of practical help and godly wisdom.
