'Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation.'
'Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious..."The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone."'Isaiah 28:16 (NKJV) & Esther Harrison (Nottingham)
'What do you value most?' This fundamental question is often asked in sermons or Christian books. If you're like me, you take it for granted and think to yourself "Well, God of course."
Is that really true? Whatever we value most affects every aspect of our lives: what we say and do; where we go; how we spend our time and expend our energies and resources. Often as busy lawyers, these commodities are even more precious. You never hear a lawyer or student bemoaning an abundance of time! As we seek to prioritise, our value system is our guide.
Time and again this year the words of 1 Peter 2:7 have come to challenge and to probe me. Is Jesus precious to me? Does the fact that He left heaven and shed His precious blood to atone for my sins break my heart and lead me to worship, love and serve Him more?
This week let our heart song truly be "All that thrills my soul is Jesus, He is more than life to me."*
1. Thank You Jesus for giving up the glory of heaven and Your precious life to save me.
2. For Parliament as it considers the upcoming Marris Assisted Dying Bill (No.2), and that the debate will expose the dangers underlying it, and that the House will not pass it.
